We are excited to welcome you to the Fall 2024 Conference at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront, taking place on October 18 and 19. This year's theme, “The Role of Clinical Psychologists in the Future of Health Care,” promises to foster enriching discussions and provide valuable insights into our evolving field.

We are honored to feature our keynote speaker, Dr. Beth Rom-Rymer, Ph.D., candidate for APA President-elect 2024. Her presentation, “The Revolution in Healthcare: How Prescribing Psychologists are Changing the Landscape of Mental Healthcare in the United States and Around the World,” will set a compelling tone for our conference.

In addition to Dr. Rom-Rymer's keynote presentation, we have an engaging lineup of topics, including:

  • Integrating Artificial Intelligence into Clinical Psychology
  • Celebrating Gender Expansiveness: Taking Gender-Affirming Care Beyond Treatment of Gender Dysphoria
  • The Unique Skill of Couples Therapy
  • Existential & Attachment-Based Approaches to Suicidality: Exploring the Importance of Cognitive Distortion in Therapy Processes
  • Decreasing Polypharmacy: Therapist and Prescriber Working Together
  • A Conversation Hour with the Virginia Board of Psychology to discuss potential changes impacting our field

We are thrilled to present a wonderful group of speakers, including Dr. Jonathan DeRight, Ph.D., ABPP, and Dr. Edward A. “Ted” Peck III, Ph.D., ABPP-Cn, Dr. Rachel W. Friendly, Ph.D., Dr. Peter L. Sheras, Ph.D., ABPP, and Dr. Phyllis R. Koch-Sheras, Ph.D., Dr. Lindsey A. Harvell-Bowman, Ph.D. and Dr. Kenneth L. Critchfield, Ph.D., Dr. Ed Tiller, Ph.D., Dr. James Morris, Ph.D., and Dr. Jeremy Walden, Psy.D., as well as Dr. Gary Sibcy, Ph.D., from the Board of Psychology.

This conference is an excellent opportunity for fellowship and networking. Engaging with these topics is crucial for our profession, as they address the innovative and adaptive roles clinical psychologists must embrace in a rapidly changing healthcare landscape.

I hope to see you all there as we come together to learn, share, and grow!

Warm regards,

Ridjie Chery, Psy.D.
VACP Continuing Education Committee Chair
