Please join us for VACP's Spring Convention, April 1st and 2nd, 2022, at Hotel 24 South in Staunton, Virginia. The theme of the 2022 conference is the creation of space for assessment throughout the diversified field of psychology. As we know, the psychology field is va st and continuing to grow and become more diverse. The VACP strives to cont inue to accommodate these changes. This theme invites contributions focused on assessment challenges such as competence, multimethod approaches, resou rce-seeking, ethics, state regulations, and incorporating assessment techno logies. This theme also invites contributors to present research and practi ce on assessment related to tackling aspects of diversity and culture. The goal is for attendees to gain awareness and competencies of evidence-based practices to inform decision-making and implications for equality and inclu sion shaped or influenced by assessment. We are thrilled to have an outstan ding program of presenters, including speakers from the board of psychology , presenting on regulation changes, with a particular focus on the standard s of practice.
The pandemic co ntinues to be a source of tension for many; however, during these trying ti mes, I have often reflected on the proverb, "What you lose in the fire, you will find amongst the ashes.” This message embodies our strengths, to go o n in times of loss and adversity. Many have lost lives, loves, families, pr operty, freedoms, lifestyles, and yet, strength was found for many to carry on (i.e., what was found amongst the ashes). The Spring Conference, a prom ising opportunity for unity, embodies the hope to rise above, move forward, and share our strengths with others. “L’Union fait la Force (i.e., with Un ity there is Strength)” is a guiding principle that has been the cornerston e of Haitian beliefs, my roots. So, let us unite as clinicians and celebrat e the interaction, personalization, and effective communication that are es sential ingredients for successful learning. As the conference approaches, we will continue to monitor the CDC guidelines and guidance from the Virgin ia Department of Health and follow recommended prevention strategies, inclu ding masking, physical distancing, and hygiene.
Thank you to all of our presenters, VACP staff, and board members for creating a space f or continued growth. I hope to see you there.
