Join Blue Ridge area psychologists for an hour of live, virtual CE on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 12pm. Jeannie B. Berger, Ph.D. will present Eating Disorders from an Internal Family Systems Perspective: Befriending Parts. Registration is $5 for VACP members and $10 for non-members. Please click here to register.

Course Description: Traditional approaches to treating eating disorders typically attempt to strengthen control of preferred behaviors while resisting maladaptive strategies. This enhances the polarization between competing agendas and reinforces shame. Internal Family Systems invites the client into a deeper understanding of how their eating disorder parts serve them to facilitate a greater healing of vulnerable emotions and beliefs.

Objectives:

  1. Describe the Internal Family Systems approach to working with eating disorders.
  2. Identify three types of parts that get activated in an eating disorder system and how their roles play out.
  3. Describe strategies to help clients turn towards their feared and disliked parts.
